The Steve Francis Foundation has awarded its 2009 Brenda Wilson Scholarships. Each award is $10,000 and five (5) recipients were selected.
The students are nominated by The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston, as community involvement strongly factors into the selection process, in addition to leadership, character and academic commitment.
The Brenda Wilson Scholarship Program was created in 2004 in honor of Steve Francis' mother, who passed away when he was in high school. Francis, a former Houston Rocket, is committed to helping Houston youth overcome financial hurdles in order to attend college.
Since inception, Francis has awarded thirty (30) scholarships for a total of $300,000.
The program recipients currently attend schools in Florida, Massachusetts, Oklahoma, Louisiana, California and Texas. This May, the Program proudly graduated its first student, Michelle Sanders, from Amherst College in Amherst, Massachusetts.
