Jeffery attended Humble High School and was awarded The Steve Francis Foundation Scholarship in 2011. He played all four years on the high school football team’s offensive line, helping the Wildcats to a 12-2 record and the 18-4A district title in 2010. Jeffery plays football for Lamar University, and since he redshirted last year, he still has two seasons remaining. This past summer he worked for Lamar’s recreation department weight room to save money for school and prepare for the football season.
His mother has been the sole provider and caretaker for Jeffery and his nephew for several years. In 2007, they discovered that Jeffery’s nephew had been abused at only 5 months and when his mother asked how Jeffery would feel if she fought for sole custody, his response was “We have no choice Mom.” The child suffers from shaken baby syndrome and seizure disorder but has been in good hands with Jeffery and his mom. The custody battle was difficult, but Jeffery’s mom believes that “Anything is possible as long as you have the favor of God.” She has struggled financially, but remained focused on raising them both as strong individuals who would not give up on their dreams.
Growing up, Jeffery was both a member and volunteer at Holthouse Boys and Girls Club and a member of Distinguished Gentlemen step team for two years. The Branch Director for Holthouse B&G Club describes Jeffery as a “very ambitious, hard-working, intelligent and dependable individual.”
SFF can attest to Jeffery’s hard-working and ambitious nature and looks forward to seeing where the future takes him.
