The mission of The Steve Francis Foundation is to create educational and recreational opportunities for at-risk youth.

Scholarship Program

Brenda Wilson is best described by her children as a woman of sacrifice, truth and unconditional love. She walked in agape love. Brenda made herself strong in order to be strong for those around her. She was a constant source of inspiration, support, and everyone knew that she would lend a helping hand to those in need. It was a tragedy for Steve and his family to lose her at such a young age.

Brenda Wilson Scholarship Program

In 2004, to commemorate his mother, Steve created The Brenda Wilson Scholarship Program. Her dedication to his education and her dream for Steve to attend college serves as his inspiration to help underprivileged students overcome financial hurdles so that they may fulfill their dreams.

For the past eight years, The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston have exclusively nominated candidates for the $10,000 awards. Steve strongly believes that his involvement with the Boys & Girls Clubs and connection to mentors through the Clubs while growing up in Takoma Park, Maryland positively influenced his path in life. Therefore, he places a high value on proven dedication to the community. This year, The Steve Francis Foundation has expanded its applicant pool to also include nominations from Teach for America Corps Members and YESPrep teachers. The three organizations nominate candidates who not only show commitment in the community but also exude leadership, character, and academic commitment.

Since 2004, forty-four (44) scholarships have been awarded in the amount of $10,000 each for a total of $440,000. With continued support from the community, The Steve Francis Foundation is devoted to keeping Brenda’s memory alive by awarding The Scholarships for years to come.
