(Houston, Texas – May 23, 2012) – The Steve Francis Foundation is excited to announce that The Brenda Wilson Scholarship Program, created in 2004 in honor of former NBA All-Star Steve Francis’ mother, is now accepting 2012 Scholarship Applications.
This June, three more recipients will be selected to receive The Brenda Wilson Scholarship and will join a fantastic group of Scholars that have graduated from elite schools such as Stanford University, Texas A&M, University of Miami, Southern University and Amherst College. Scholars have seen post-graduation success in business and community leadership by working for companies such as BP and Google and teaching in Houston area high schools. To be considered, applicants must be graduating in Spring 2012 from a Houston area high school, be an active member of a community organization, earned a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale in high school, have been accepted to an accredited 4-year college or university for the Fall 2012 semester, and completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The Scholarship Program, which since 2004 has awarded $410,000 in scholarship funds to forty-one recipients, provides financial support to Houston area high school seniors who have demonstrated leadership, integrity, community involvement, and academic commitment.
