Scholar Spotlight: Stephanie Montalvan

2014 Scholar Stephanie Montalvan is wrapping up her freshman year at Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania, where she’s studying to be a Chemical Engineer. Never one to stay idle, the Houston native and KIPP Houston High School Graduate recently joined Bryn Mawr’s rowing team, and says it was one of her best college decisions thus far. Recently she sent us these pictures of the campus, and boy it sure looks chilly up there for a Texan! She also thanked us for the countless care packages writing, “They always come at just the right time and are always filled with the sweetest of love.”

Our 2012 Scholar Angie DeWalt is starting her junior year at the University of Houston. Angie plans to graduate in 2016 with a degree in chemistry and then continue to follow her dreams by becoming and Optometrist. During the 2014 summer break she worked at Best Buy as a Customer Service Specialist, but allowed time for a short vacation to Austin with her family, including fellow SFF Scholars and sisters Alexis and Warnessa. Together they went hiking, jet skiing, and tubing. By the time August came around she was eager to hit the books again!

Scholar Spotlight: Erick Castillo

Erick Castillo graduated from KIPP Houston High School in 2013 and recently completed his first year of college at the University of Texas.  Erick’s love and passion for math & science is his driving factor to earn a degree in both mathematics and electrical engineering. “By delving into mathematics and the sciences, and learning the laws by which the universe runs, I am ensuring a future rich in happiness and purpose.”
