In pursuit of her dream to become a pharmacist, DeWalt made Dean’s list for the second year in a row, and hopes to serve others, especially the youth and elderly, with her degree. During the summers, she returns to Galveston to volunteer at the Boys and Girl Club. This past summer she commuted to the University of St. Thomas to take PCAT courses that might enhance her chances of getting in Pharmacy School after she graduates from University of Houston. In addition, Alexis enrolled in five summer school classes. She was busy!
Alexis’ inspiration comes from three strong women in her life, her mother, grandmother, and aunt. We have had the pleasure of working with her mother for many years now at the Johnny Mitchell Boys and Girls Club, and know firsthand that she has the biggest heart. One of the lessons she learned from these strong women is to “never let go of her dreams, no matter how many nightmares.”
Alexis was a member of the Johnny Mitchell Boys and Girls Club in Galveston for eleven years and grew up in a broken home due to domestic violence. She found the club to be a safe haven, helping her to make the best of a difficult situation. We are proud that Alexis, a future pharmacist, is a part of the SFF family.
